Banff Iiniskim Cross-Cultural Powwow

Friday, June 29

The Buffalo Nations Luxton Museum and the Iiniskim Powwow Committee present a cross-cultural gathering of Indigenous nations and the Bow Valley community. The 2018 Banff Iiniskim Cross-Cultural Powwow will feature drumming, singing, regalia, dancing, and cultural education. Shop Indigenous handicrafts and art from the indoor market on site throughout the event. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are available from the concession on site. Parking free.

Competitors in regalia can compete for prize monies in categories of golden age, adult, teen, junior, and tiny tot dancers. Between competitions, spectators are invited to join the social dances and workshops on the dance floor.

Meet the Powwow princess whose role is to share with youth of all backgrounds her stories of the significance of a Powwow social gathering. The Powwow is led by a professional Powwow coordinator, arena director, and announcers, who will also explain the traditions as they unfold.
