Be sure you and your household are counted in the municipal census which begins Monday, June 12 in Banff.
The municipal census, required every three years by the provincial government, is used to determine funding and grant levels to the community. The data also helps form Town service levels, policies and programs.
Door hangers with personal identification numbers (PINs) will be dropped off at every house, apartment and suite in Banff, including staff accommodation. The unique PINs enable residents to complete the census confidentially online at banff.ca/census. Residents who complete the census by June 25 have an opportunity to win an iPad.
Only one person in the household needs to complete the census, but all permanent, seasonal and temporary residents living in the home must be counted. Temporary residents, often called shadow population, includes those employed for a minimum of 30 days in Banff within the municipal census year who usually live elsewhere. All responses are confidential. No person, employer, landlord, agency or the Town can identify individuals or obtain personal information from a census response.
Households that have not completed their census online will receive a visit from a Town of Banff census worker between June 26 and July 31. Census workers will be wearing Town of Banff employee badges and have completed a criminal record check. Census workers will not contact any residents by email. The census coordinator may telephone only to verify that the dwelling has been visited by the enumerator or that the dwelling has completed their census online. Never give any door or telephone caller your social insurance number, banking or credit information.
In 2014, when the last municipal census was undertaken, 37 per cent of residents completed it online, and 99 per cent of residents were counted. For more information on the municipal census, visit banff.ca/census.
