Ice Climbing
Banff and the surrounding areas can be an ice climber's paradise. Winter ice conditions are reliable, the season is long, and many of the ice climbs have easy access routes.
There are, however, risks inherent to practicing the sport of ice climbing in the Canadian Rockies. The
Parks Canada Website
offers an overview of the hazards of the sport, as well as a downloadable brochure listing and rating several different ice waterfall climbs.
Ice climbing equipment can be rented through Mountain Magic Equipment on Bear Street in Banff. Guided ice climbing excursions generally include the required gear.
A list of local companies offering guided ice climbing trips and instruction include:
Chute High Adventures
The M.W. Guides Office Ltd.
Yamnuska Inc.
