Turn it off for Earth Hour
Mayor Karen Sorensen, Council and the Town of Banff invite you to participate in Earth Hour, Saturday, March 26, 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
The Mayor will be ceremonially turning off the streetlights on the 100 and 200 block of Banff Avenue at 8:30 p.m. to mark Earth Hour. The Town will also turn off the exterior lights at Town Hall and other closed municipal facilities. Interior lights, except for emergency and security lighting, are always off in non-operating hours, and computers are shut down. The streetlights will power back on at 9:30 p.m.
Fortis will be measuring the community’s energy use against the results of the 2010 Earth Hour.
Residents can;
Turn off your lights
Turn down the thermostat
Refrain from using appliances, such as televisions, stereos, dishwashers and laundry machines between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m
Shut off power bars
Make sure rechargers are unplugged.
Challenge your neighbours and friends to a non-electronic board game or host a candlelit dinner.
Businesses may wish to;
Dim a few lights or shut off non-essential lighting
Turn down the thermostat
Help spread the word to our visitors that the community of Banff cares about the environment. In Banff, every hour is Earth Hour.
