Olympic Torch Relay Celebration
Lighting of the Cauldron in Banff
Photo: Rob Fullen
On January 20th, 2010 the Vancouver Olympic Torch Relay visited Banff. The Olympic Flame arrived in Central Park carried proudly by Banff skier and Olympic medalist Karen Percy Lowe.
The arrival of the Olympic Flame was part of a two-hour outdoor celebration. The festivities were headlined by the internationally renowned musical quartet the Canadian Tenors and also featured the music of Canadian Latin-Jazz group Bomba, as well as other top-notch entertainment and appearances.

This 106-day, 4500 km Olympic Torch Relay will visit more than 1,030 communities and places of interest in every province and territory. It arrived in Banff on Day 83 of the epic journey across Canada.
From here, the Relay traveled to Lake Louise and then continued on to arrive in downtown Vancouver on February 12th, where the Torch will be used to light the Olympic Cauldron in a magical and awe-inspiring moment signalling the arrival of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
