Banff-Calgary International Writers Festival
October 16 - 18, 2009
The Banff Centre & Banff Public Library
WordFest is one of Canada's hottest literary events, featuring an all-star roster of Canadian and international writers, and events at multiple locations in Calgary and Banff.
WordFest 2009 is the 14th annual Festival.
Events in Banff take place over several busy days, at multiple venues. They include the Banff Distinguished Author Series, featuring Douglas Coupland, who presents his new novel,
Generation A
; "Wicked Words," a set of cutting-edge performances with Kris Demeanor, Alexis O’Hara and Roland Pemberton; and a "Poetry Cabaret" where the words of David Huerta, Billeh Nickerson, Alexis O’Hara, Gregory Scofield, Karen Solie, and Zoe Whittall mingle with music.
The mission of the WordFest is to enhance quality of life by stimulating literacy through bringing readers of all ages together with writers of local, national and international stature in events that are accessible and populist in nature.
The Festival was established in 1996 as a project of The Banff Centre, the Calgary Public Library, Mount Royal College and the Writers' Guild of Alberta. Banff events take place at The Banff Centre and the Banff Public Library.
