Robert S. Crosby
Banff Sports Hall of Fame - 2005: Achievement
For a long time Banff resident, this award honours a lifetime of athletic achievement. Rob Crosby competed in every sport that passed him by. From 1933 to 1940, Mr. Crosby was the Alberta Indoor and Outdoor Speed skating Champion in every age category he competed in. Many of his provincial records stood for years. He placed second at the North American Outdoor Speed Skating Championships in St. Paul, Minnesota and won many races throughout Western Canada. From skating to skiing, Rob won gold at the 1939 Canadian Amateur Ski Association championships in the senior Downhill and won silver in the Slalom, while Gold in the Slalom and silver in the Senior Downhill followed in 1940. In 1972 he was the Chairman of the organizing committee for the Bank of Montreal World Cup races at Mt. Norquay. An example of health and longevity for us all, Mr. Crosby still, at the age of 84 continues to compete and win at both skiing and golf.
