Ice Fishing

Even at the height of winter, there are fish to be caught in the Banff area, although not on lakes within the boundaries of Banff National Park.

Several Banff-based outfitters offer ice fishing (vertical jigging) from December through May, depending on ice conditions. You will experience the thrill of ice fishing on a frozen, snow-covered lake set in the middle of the mountains... but in the comfort of a heated hut, and with a steaming hot beverage in hand.

Winter fish species you can expect to catch here include lake trout and rocky mountain whitefish.
