Getting a Business License

Who needs a license?

Anyone providing goods or services within the Banff townsite must have a Town of Banff business license.

Anyone operating a business partly in the town and partly elsewhere in Banff National Park must have two licenses - one issued by Parks Canada and one from the Town of Banff.  The license from Parks Canada must be obtained first.  

How do I get a new license?

How do I submit payment?

For most resident businesses, an invoice will be mailed once the application has been processed.  For some non-resident businesses, payment may be required when the application is submitted.

You may pay with cash, cheque or bank card.  Credit cards are not accepted.

When will I receive my license?

Depending on the complexity of your application requirements, it will take anywhere between 4 and 8 weeks for you to receive your license.

What if my application is refused?

If your application is refused, you may appeal the decision to Banff Town Council within 20 days of being notified of the refusal.  Submit your appeal, in writing:
