Alberta Improvement District No. 9
Background Material
While serving as an effective planning tool over the last decade, the Land Use Bylaw needs to be amended in order to ensure it corresponds with the goals and objectives of the recently approved Banff Community Plan, as well as other relevant legislation such as Parks Canada's Management Plan, and the Federal / Provinicial Incorporation Agreement. All of these documents help to define the purpose of the townsite, and guide us in our physical development. These following policy and research documents will be of particular interest during the Land Use Bylaw review process:
- Current Land Use Bylaw (adopted September, 1998)
- Banff Community Plan
- Commercial Build-Out Study (
PDF - 1.2 mb) - Incorporation Agreement (January 1, 1990)
- Municipal Government Act of Alberta

- Banff National Park of Canada Management Plan
by Environment Canada (July, 2007) - National Parks Act

- Banff's Conundrum: Affordable Housing (
PDF - 1.2 mb) a report by E.J. (Ted) Hart (June, 2008)
