Banff has had commercial growth regulations in place since the 1997 revisions to the Banff National Park Management Plan. These regulations stipulate the amount of commercial floor space allowed within the Town of Banff, as well as the rate at which this floor space can be developed. The Town has administered these regulations through the Land Use Bylaw, and reports back to Parks Canada on an annual basis.Adminstering commercial floor space regulations is one of the core functions of the Land Use Bylaw. One of the areas the review team would like to improve are the tools we have available for tracking changes of use, intensification, the total inventory of floor space, and the future possibility of being allowed to transfer floor space from one property to another. The review team believes we need an update of the Town's commercial floor space inventory in order to effectively manage this valuable resource.
