Definition: Coffee Shop means a retail establishment whose principal business is the service and sale of coffees, teas and a limited selection of food items incidental thereto.
Definition: Restaurant means the sale to the public of prepared foods and beverages for consumption within the premises or off the site but does not include fast-food restaurants, coffee shops or nightclubs. This includes licensed drinking establishments, restaurants, cafés, delicatessens, ice cream shops, tea rooms, lunchrooms. It does not include drive-in food services which provide services to customers who remain in their vehicles, refreshment stands, fast-food restaurants, take-out windows where service is provided to customers on the outside, or mobile catering food services. An eating & drinking establishment may include fast-food delivery as an ancillary use.
Definition: Nightclub means a use where the principal use is entertainment provided to patrons in the forms of a dance floor, live music stage, live performances, or recorded music in an area greater than 10.0 square metres, where liquor is sold and consumed on the premise, where a licence for the sale of liquor that prohibits minors on the premises at any time is issued by the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission, and where food may be prepared and sold for consumption on the premises.
Definition: Restaurant, Fast Food means an establishment that offers quick food service, which is accomplished through a limited menu of items already prepared and held for service, or prepared, fried, or griddled quickly, or heated in a device such as a microwave oven. Orders are generally not taken at the customer’s table, and food is generally served in disposable wrapping or containers. Where such a use is accessory to a permitted use, it may be considered as an Eating and Drinking Establishment.
