Town of Banff

Banff has had commercial growth regulations in place since the 1997 revisions to the Banff National Park Management Plan. These regulations stipulate the amount of commercial floor space allowed within the Town of Banff, as well as the rate at which this floor space can be developed. The Town has administered these regulations through the Land Use Bylaw, and reports back to Parks Canada on an annual basis.

Adminstering commercial floor space regulations is one of the core functions of the Land Use Bylaw. One of the proposals that Council has already endorsed moving forward with is a tool for tracking changes of use, intensification, the total inventory of floor space, and the future possibility of being allowed to transfer floor space from one property to another. This Commercial Floor Space Administration System will be an invaluable tool as the community approaches build-out.

 
The project is now moving forward with an expected completion date in fall, 2011.
