Soaking in Sunshine
Even though the Town of Banff has very few south facing slopes, its siting relative to the Spray and Vermilion valleys ensures a large amount of solar exposure throughout the year. Compared to other sites in the Bow Valley such as the Canmore town site (which is located on the solar lee of a large mountain range), Banff is very fortunate to have a high degree of exposure to natural light.
Below is a movie illustrating how fortunate Banff is to be sited in an area with a high amount of sunshine. We've used December 21st, the darkest day of the year, as an illustration date.
