'Aspect' is the term given to the compass direction a piece of land is facing. In the mid-latitudes of the northern hemisphere, south-facing building sites are often coveted as they tend to have the highest levels of solar exposure. A southern aspect means more natural light coming into buildings, less heating costs for homeowners, and less damp building exteriors.
In Banff, we are fortunate to have good solar exposure as well as spectacular views. The view corridor along Banff Avenue to Cascade Mountain is clearly a defining feature for the Town, and illustrates how important views are in bringing our natural surroundings into the Town.
