Ungulate Highway
Banff is located at a critical intersection for wildlife in the National Park, with its location at the confluence of several river valleys. These valleys are ideal movement corridors for ungulates (elk, moose, etc...), as well as bears, cougars, and other wildlife. This interface between animal and humans influences land use decisions in the Town, where consideration has been made for wildlife corridors in and around the townsite.
The map below illustrates some of the major wildlife corridors in and around Banff.
