Education
Organized education in Banff dates back to 1888, when the first public school was established in a log cabin at the corner of Bear Street and Caribou Street. Today, Banff's public schools are part of the Canadian Rockies Public Schools system, which also includes Bow Valley schools in nearby Canmore and Exshaw.Between them, Banff Elementary School and Banff Community High School provide a high standard of education for more than 600 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
Banff's adult population enjoys a wealth of continuing education opportunities, including a full slate of community classes that run the gamut from cooking, arts, and crafts, to business, finance and computer applications; and world-class training in performing arts, visual arts and business leadership at the Banff Centre.
Banff residents also have ready access to post-secondary education programs offered at Bow Valley College, with classes offered in Canmore as well as Banff; and the major university and college campuses in Calgary, including the University of Calgary and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.
