Public Health

The Banff Health Unit's public health programs include:

Public Health Nursing

• Healthy growth and development throughout the lifespan.
• Health promotion, disease and injury prevention for children, youth and adults.
• Investigation and follow-up of clients with communicable disease as mandated under the Public Health Act.
• Promotion of healthy sexual and reproductive health with resources, sexual health counselling,and education in schools, community groups and professionals.

International Travel Clinic

(Appointments required - Phone: 762-2990)

• Consultation and Immunization Assessment
• Travel vaccines including Yellow Fever vaccine
• Routine immunizations

Sexual Health "ASK" Clinic

(Drop-in, phone or by appointment)

• Sexual health education to individuals and groups
• Counselling and referral (birth control, STD’s, pregnancy options, etc)

Fees:
Free pregnancy-testing, condoms available

Maternal Child Program

• Well child clinics including immunization
• Postnatal visits
• Healthy Moms/Healthy Babes (program to reduce the incidence of low birth weight in babies)
• Baby and You classes

Health Promotion Projects with Community Partners

• Initiative to support smoke-free places for Bow Valley residents and visitors
• Injury Prevention and SMARTRISK initiates 
• P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth)

Community Nutrition

Provides wellness and/or illness focused nutrition education and counselling for individuals or groups (i.e. healthy vegetarian diets, latest fad diets, body image and nutrition issues, etc.)
