Disaster Social Services
What is Disaster Social Services (DSS)?
Every municipality is mandated under the Disaster Services Act to provide assistance to evacuees in the event of an emergency or disaster. Disaster Social Services is one part of Banff's Municipal Emergency plan intended to meet the immediate survival and psychological needs of individuals impacted by an emergency or disaster.
How would Banff DSS help in a disaster?
DSS would be responsible for coordinating a reception centre where evacuees can go if they've been displaced from their homes, providing for basic needs such as clothing, food, family reunification, counselling and pet care.
