Emergency Kits
Lessen the impact of any emergency or disaster by having your emergency kits ready.Be prepared with a three-day (72 hour) supply per person:
Emergency Food and Water Kit
- at least two litres of drinking water per person per day
- canned food: soups, stews, baked beans, pasta, meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, fruits
- crackers and biscuits
- energy bars and dried foods
- honey, peanut butter, syrup, jam, salt and pepper, sugar, instant coffee, tea
- knives, forks, spoons
- disposable cups and plates
- manual can opener, bottle opener
Emergency Survival Kit
- first-aid kit
- medication (prescription and non-prescription)
- clothing and footwear (one change of clothes per person)
- rain gear
- blankets or sleeping bags (one per person)
- candles / lighter / matches (waterproof)
- duct tape
- extra keys (house and vehicle)
- flashlight and spare batteries
- large garbage bags
- money (cash in small denominations, coins for payphones)
- paper towels / toilet paper / handiwipes
- personal hygiene items
- radio (battery-operated or crank)
- small fuel-driven stove plus fuel
- copies of important documents and I.D.
- baby supplies, pet supplies
- backpack/duffel bag (to carry emergency kit)
- basic tools: hammer, pliers, wrench, screwdrivers, fasteners, work gloves
- whistle
Car Kit
- food that won't spoil (such as energy bars)
- water
- blanket
- extra clothing and shoes
- matches, and a candle in a deep can (to warm hands, heat a drink or use as an emergency light)
- first aid kit with seatbelt cutter
- warning light or road flares
- small shovel, scraper and snowbrush
- list of contact numbers
- tow rope
- booster cables
- sand, salt or cat litter (non clumping)
- traction mats
- fire extinguisher
- compass
- cloth or roll of paper towels
- road maps, whistle and flashlight
- axe or hatchet
