Energy Efficiency
Most home energy costs come from heating. Ill-fitting exterior doors and windows can leak the same amount of heat as a boot-sized hole in your wall. Unused and inefficient appliances drain power. Upgrading to energy efficient appliances and windows, and caulking seals makes a substantial difference to your utility bill. Plus, since most energy in Alberta is coal-based, reducing your energy use lowers carbon emissions and keeps our air healthy and clean. ![]() |
What we can do
- Check out our energy saving tips
- Programmable thermostats, timers, motion sensors and power bars are easy to install, available for purchase in Banff, and can save as much as 15 percent on your energy bill. The Eco Kiosk can help direct you to local retailers, and also stocks fireplace plugs to prevent draughts.
- The Town offers a variety of residential and commercial rebates to help you save energy and money. Energy Star washers, refrigerators, doors and windows are eligible, along with solar hot water systems and programmable thermostats.
- Measure your power consumption. Kill-a-Watts are available on loan through the Banff Public Library, and can help you identify the power consumption of different devices in active, standby or off modes.
What we are doing
Banff is participating in a North America pilot trail for new LED energy efficient street lights. Check out the demos in front of Town Hall.
