Water Conservation
Water Conservation
We have an abundance of clear, clean water. So why conserve? Water conservation equals saved money since you are billed on your water consumption. Reducing consumption also extends the life of the Town’s infrastructure and helps preserve our groundwater supply. Plus, less water used means less cost overall for treatment. The average Banff resident uses about 280 L of water a day, the equivalent of 1.75 full bathtubs. Less than 3 percent of this is directly consumed. The European average is 200 L, and the African average only 20 L.

What we can do
- The Town offers a variety of residential and commercial rebates to help you save water and money. Dual flush toilets, energy star dishwashers and rain barrels are all eligible. Dual flush toilets reduce water use by 25 to 30 percent and save an average family about $60 per year, while rain barrels are a great way to collect free and untreated water for outdoor use.
- Aerators and low-flow showerheads are easy to install, available for purchase in Banff and can save you $20 to $40 a year. It all adds up. Check out the Eco Kiosk for local retailers who stock these items.
What we’ve done
To date, 250 residents have taken advantage of the Town’s rebate programs and installed over 300 water saving toilets, 26 energy star dishwashers and 15 rain barrels.
