You really don't need a car to get around in Banff. Our Roam public transit bus system offers one of the best and most convenient deals in town. And our buses are friendly to the environment, as we have Canada's first all-hybrid bio-diesel/electric bus fleet.
The Roam bus routes cover the whole townsite, and there are bus stops near just about any spot you want to get to.
We operate three bus routes, with service every 40 minutes. See the maps and schedules below for detailed information about bus stops, arrival times and rates.
One of the main benefits of the new buses will be to the environment. An electric drive dominates the power output during acceleration, and when the vehicle attains sufficient speed, it blends with the bio-diesel mechanical system. With this combination of electric and bio-diesel, we’re anticipating a savings in greenhouse gas emissions of approximately 20%. It will also provide a smoother, more comfortable ride.
You will notice LED signs at 10 select stops around town. This is the new GPS Real-time Information System designed to tell you how long until the next bus arrives. This service will also be available from your cell phone, PDA or online. No more waiting.
New electronic fare boxes are being installed. These will accept a variety of payment methods: Canadian and American bills and coins, tokens, tickets and passes. Check your receipt for swag, since the fare boxes can issue random coupons and prizes. In addition to daily passes, one-, three- and six-month passes are also available.
