The Plan for Bow Valley Transit
Banff Town Council has joined with the councils of Canmore, and Improvement District #9 (ID#9) to approve joint partnership in a Bow Valley Transit Authority (BVTA).
The future Bow Valley Transportation Authority (BVTA) will enhance existing transit services and introduce new ones. The draft 5-year business plan currently includes:
the introduction of regular transit service connecting Canmore and Banff
the introduction of a transit service to some popular camping and hiking destinations in Bow Valley
enhancements to the local transit service in Banff

The business plan was produced by a Steering Committee made up of Banff, Canmore and ID*9 plus representatives from these sectors:
Parks Canada
The accommodation sector
The ski areas
The transportation sector
Canmore Tourism
Next Steps
Now that the plan has been endorsed by all three councils, we will be sending an application to the Minister of Municipal Affairs to form the BVTA. Approval from the Minister is expected before the end of the year, which means the authority could be up and running early in 2011.
