Get active in the summer with your family

Regular physical activity is an important part of a healthy lifestyle.  Physical Activity through participation in recreation has proven benefits including meeting new friends, improving self-esteem and encouraging healthy growth and development. Making it a fun family activity is a great way to get everyone involved.
 
The Town of Banff offers several programs to help families access a range of recreation opportunities in our community. 

• The Campership Fund ensures that every child has the opportunity to attend Summer Fun and Kids Kampus programming. 
• Check out the Get Out Youth drop in sports night for a great place to hang out on a Friday Night. 
• Skating is a great way to get active as a family.  Kids who live in Banff skate for free at The Fenlands at all public skating sessions.  Call 403.762.1235 for up to date schedule information.
• The Everybody Gets to Play program ensures that every family in Banff has an opportunity to play by providing access to activities like swimming, bowling, and canoeing to families living under the Low Income Cut Off.
• New Sports Equipment Lending program launching May 7th 2012.  Get active in your local park or at the Recreation Grounds.  Stop by Banff Town Hall and sign out some equipment on your way.  Tennis racquets, baseball gloves and balls, cricket, bocce ball sets and more are available.
• Walking or biking is the best ways to explore our community.  Get out with your family and check out all the local walking/hiking trails.
  

There are also many other options for getting active in our community.   

• The Sally Borden Fitness Centre offers free public swimming on the last Sunday of each month.  See www.banffcentre.ca/sbb for schedule information. 
• Winter sports are an important part of living in the mountains and our local hills offer great opportunities for kids to get out and try skiing or snowboarding.

• Skiing and snowboarding can be very expensive activities.  The Everybody Gets to Ski program helps to ensure local kids have access to proper equipment.  New and used equipment donations are collected in the fall and fitted and distributed from the Banff Elementary School Gymnasium.  Check back in fall 2012 for details about next year’s event.
•  Kidsport believes that no kid should miss out on the benefits of organized sport.  Kidsport provides support by removing financial barriers that prevent kids from joining organized sports. www.kidsport.ab.ca
