Updated August 12, 2011Most trails are in good to excellent condition, with some muddy sections in the higher alpine. Please use caution.
Closure Alerts
Legacy Trail between third Vermilion Lake and Bow Valley Parkway, temporary closure for herbicide spraying of non-native plants will begin as early as August 15 (weather permitting) for 4 to 8 hours.
Lake Louise area: the trail from the Plain of Six Glaciers Teahouse to Abbot Pass Viewpoint is formally closed because of trail instability.
Wildlife Alerts
A Bear Warning is in place for the Sundance Canyon and Healy Creek trails from the Cave and Basin west to the junction of the Brewster Creek trail, due to bear activity in the area. Grizzly bears are feeding on buffalo bears in the area. Users should travel in groups, watch for signs of bear activity, make noise, carry bear spray and leave dogs at home or on short leash.
Seasonal Restrictions
Seasonal restrictions on the Lake Minnewanka/Alymer Pass/Lookout: July 10 to September 15: hike in groups of 4 only, bear spray mandatory, bicycles and dogs not permitted.
