Tunnel Mountain Trail
- 2.3 km, 300 m elevation gain from lower trailhead (1 – 1.5 hrs.)
- bikes are not permitted on this trail
A hike to the top of Banff's smallest summit, with moderately steep switchbacks up the forested side of the mountain. You are rewarded at the top with 360° views of the townsite, the Bow and Spray River valleys, the Banff Springs Golf Course, and surrounding peaks.
This is a very popular short hike in summer and fall, often quite crowded. In the winter, check the trail conditions before starting up, and wear suitable footwear - the trail can be icy and treacherous.
Please stay on the trail and do not shortcut across switchbacks. No bikes.
Trailhead:
- lower trailhead on St. Julien Road, near the Banff Centre
- upper trailhead on Tunnel Mountain Drive (closed to vehicles in winter)
