In 2009 Environment Minister Jim Prentice announced the development of a "new muti-use recreational trail that will run from Canmore to Lake Louise and beyond".
The new trail system will be a non-motorized recreational trail suitable for activities such as walking, cycling and in-line skating “and will be completed in time to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the creation of Banff National Park in 2010.”
Trail Construction began late in 2009
The Vermillion trail earthworks is approximately 60% complete
Paving will begin on the Vermillion Trail in May 2010
Banff Legacy Trail has 5km of sub-grade completed and 10km yet to be started.
