Recycling
It just got a lot easier
All your friends are doing it...
In 2006, Banffites recycled over 3500 tonnes of residential waste, which represented 24% of our total waste generation.
Through the last municipal census, you told us you would recycle even more if our system was more convenient.
To accomplish this, we introduced a
new neighbourhood blue bin system
in October 2008 designed to make your life a little bit easier.
Now, instead of driving to a central recycling depot, you will find a bright blue recycling bin within a block and a half of where you live... 22 neighbourhood bins in all, distributed throughout Banff.

And instead of sorting your recycling into nine piles, we've got it down to three (plus organics):

Don't use plastic bags!
Contamination continues to be a challenge for our recycling program. This includes:
putting recycling and organic materials into the bins in plastic bags
putting garbage in with the recycling
putting recyclables in the wrong bin (such as tin cans in with the cardboard)
Contamination of a few can spoil the good efforts of many people who are working hard to recycle resources and preserve our landfills.
