How To Recycle
Get to know your neighbourhood recycling bins
Photo: Janice Carson
At your neighbourhood bin...Simply place your
mixed papers
(including cardboard),
mixed containers
, and
glass
in the bins as labelled. Remember to keep the items loose, not in plastic bags. If you toss a plastic bag into the bin, that will affect our ability to sort the items and run the recycling system effectively.

Recycling How-To Guide
(

The residential recycling trailer that has been rotated through neighborhoods throughout the week was phased out in 2009.
At a recycling depot...
Continue to sort your items by type (milk jugs, metal cans, cardboard, paper, plastics etc.) and deliver them to either of our recycling depot locations:
Downtown Depot: 200 block of Beaver Street, in the public parking lot next to the Banff Fire Hall
Compound Depot: 120 Hawk Avenue, opposite the Town of Banff Operations Building
Don't use plastic bags!
Contamination continues to be a challenge for our recycling program. This includes:
putting recycling and organic materials into the bins in plastic bags
putting garbage in with the recycling
putting recyclables in the wrong bin (such as tin cans in with the cardboard)
Contamination of a few can spoil the good efforts of many people who are working hard to recycle resources and preserve our landfills.
If you are unsure about an item, please contact us for advice:
