New York City follows Banff's Roam Public Transit lead:
In a December 9 2009 story, CTV News reports that
New York City is following Banff's lead
. NYC has purchased three diesel hybrid buses identical to our own
ground-breaking Roam buses
, and plans to purchase up to 90 more in an effort to clean up its fleet which carries about two million passengers per day.
Corrected information about Banff's 2010 budget:
In the Dec. 8 2009 edition of the
Banff Crag & Canyon
, the article,"Budget passed, taxes to increase by 3.1 per cent" had two inaccuracies we would like to correct:
Banff Town Council has not yet passed the
2010 budget
. There are two budget meetings scheduled in 2010 (Jan. 11 and Jan. 18).
Councillor Stavros Karlos was misquoted as saying, "Wages have increased from $1 million in total to $6 to $7 million in the last three years." In fact, Karlos said there had been a $1 million change during this time. In 2007, the Town invested $6,111,615 in wages and in 2010 predicted wage costs are $7,140,813, representing a $1,029,198 variance.
Outstanding Achievement in Public Transit:
On Nov. 14, 2007, Banff Mayor John Stutz received the 2007 Outstanding Achievement for Public Transit Award given by the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA), in recognition of his work towards
converting Banff's bus fleet to environment-friendly hybrid buses
, and turning the Town's transit system into an experience rather than a service.
Town of Banff Municipal Census:
Starting June 1, our team of census enumerators begins calling door-to-door throughout Banff to
count residents and collect demographic information
. The information they gather will be used for planning housing, transportation, and services for the community, as well as to ensure that Banff receives appropriate funding from the provincial and federal governments.
Banff refreshing

As of March 19, colorful fencing has gone up along the sidewalks of the Banff Avenue downtown core, and
