Storm Sewer Construction on Buffalo Street
Work to resume in spring
The Town of Banff has begun work to improve the storm sewer system for Banff and install the Town's first storm water treatment unit. Work began the week of Oct. 18, 2006 and is scheduled for completion this spring when the road can be re-paved.
“This work will not only increase the capacity of the storm water system to prevent flooding, it will add a key environmental safeguard to protect the Bow River,” said Manager of Engineering, Bruce Bedwell .
Due to the complexity of this installation, it will take place in two, four-week phases (weather permitting).
Phase 1 is scheduled from Oct. 18 to Nov. 10. During this time, the following changes will be in place:
- Buffalo Street will be closed from Banff Avenue to Bow Avenue and there will be no vehicular access (right or left) to Buffalo from Bear Street.
- The lane between Banff Avenue and Bear Street will also be closed at the Buffalo entrance, however, we will allow for lane access through the Town Hall/Keller’s parking lot (roughly 10 parking stalls will be removed temporarily).
- Pedestrians can still walk along Buffalo Street and will be protected by a screened safety fence.
- The Central Park parking lot and Banff Park Museum parking lot will also remain open in Phase 1 but vehicular access is limited to the Bow Avenue entrance/exit.
During Phase 2, which is scheduled from Nov. 10 to Dec. 5:
- Buffalo Street will remain closed from Bear Street to Bow Avenue.
- The lower portion of the Central Park parking lot will also be closed throughout this phase of construction, however, the upper portion, including the Banff Park Museum lot, will be open and accessible from the Buffalo/Bear Street intersection.
We realize this will be an inconvenience and we apologize. This is essential work that must be completed this fall with roadworks wrapping up in spring 2007. Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to call Ernie Rose or Arnel Wiebe at 762-1215.
