Fire Danger in Banff is Rated Extreme
As of July 16 2007, Parks Canada advises that the fire danger in Banff National Park is extreme. What this Means
Fire Danger is a relative index of how easy it is to ignite vegetation, how difficult a fire may be to control and how much damage a fire may do.A Fire Danger rating of EXTREME means that vegetation will ignite easily, spread furiously, and burn intensely, making it very difficult for fire fighters to control.
There is no fire ban at this point, but Parks Canada is recommending that those out enjoying the park keep the following in mind:
- keep campfires small and in designated fire pits
- completely extinguish campfires
- dispose of cigarettes in appropriate receptacles
- report any suspicious smoke or illegal campfires to Banff Dispatch at (403) 762-4506
