Tunnel Mountain Road Construction
Road to close Oct. 16 to Nov. 4
The Town of Banff is about to begin an important construction project and its scheduling is going to affect Tunnel Mountain Road access below Tatanga Ridge. This roadway will close to vehicular traffic from Oct. 16 to Nov. 4. To access homes, hotels, the campground or services in this area, a detour will be in place that follows Tunnel Mountain Road from the Rocky Mountain Resort entry.
Twenty-five detour signs will be placed throughout the community to ensure this route is easy to navigate.
“This is essential work will improve drainage and the retaining wall and hand railing along this roadway,” says Michel Dupuis, Town of Banff Engineering Coordinator. “The roadway is failing and we do not want to put public safety at risk.”
Work will begin -- weather permitting -- on Oct. 2 and we expect Tunnel Mountain Road to be closed for three weeks from Oct. 16 to Nov. 4.
When traveling by car, residents and guests will have to follow a detour to get to and from properties on Tunnel Mountain. Tunnel Mountain Drive may be an alternative too, weather permitting.
The Town apologizes for any inconvenience caused. This is essential work that must be completed this fall. Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to call Michel Dupuis at 762-1296.
