Council Seeks Input on Banff Refreshing
December 14, 2006
Banff, AB –The Town of Banff received the project scenarios and cost estimates for Banff refreshing from Standard General, the contractor chosen to replace the infrastructure and streetscape on the 100 and 200 blocks of Banff Avenue. Costs for the project range from $21.8 million to $25.67 million and include options to take construction through the summer months, completing the project in 15 months or lengthening the project construction over three to four years, which would substantially increase the costs by an additional $3.9 million, but minimize the project’s impact during the busy summer months.
Banff Town Council wants to hear the community’s views on Banff refreshing cost estimates and timing. The Town of Banff is holding a public meeting on Monday, Jan. 8 from 4 to 6 p.m. in Banff Town Hall Council Chambers. At the Banff refreshing Public Hearing, Council will discuss project construction scenarios and how best to proceed.
The Town of Banff is committed to keeping residents, business owners and community stakeholders up to date on all aspects of Banff refreshing. “We are at a crucial phase of Banff refreshing and it is imperative that we stay connected to the needs of the community,” said town manager Robert Earl.
Community members can find detailed information regarding the various options and their cost implications for Banff refreshing in a 4-page pullout section in the centre of the Tuesday, Dec. 19 publication of the Banff Crag and Canyon and the Thursday, Dec. 21 publication of the Rocky Mountain Outlook. This Banff refreshing section will continue to run in both papers for the next two weeks.
Residents, business owners and community stakeholders are able to have their views heard at the Banff refreshing Public Hearing on Monday Jan. 8 either in a written submission or verbally at the meeting. “We encourage community members to attend the public hearing and share their views on Banff refreshing,” says Earl.
