New LED Christmas pageantry lights up Banff

Christmas trees will adorn Banff Avenue light tops, giant snowflakes
will light the way up Tunnel Mountain Drive and twirling snowflakes
will be projected onto the side of the Bear Street Mall, as the Town of
Banff installs $75,000 worth of new, environment-friendly holiday
pageantry.
Banff Avenue to reopen for winter

Dec. 3, the 100 and 200 blocks of Banff Avenue will once again be open
to traffic. To commemorate the opening, and completion of the 2007
phase of the $22.8 million project to refresh downtown, Town of Banff
Mayor, John Stutz will take an inaugural drive at 1 p.m.
OSRAM and Banff light the way with environmentally-friendly LED streetlights

The
Town of Banff has joined forces with OSRAM Opto Semiconductors to
launch a pilot project to convert its street lighting to LEDs. Eight
street lights have been upgraded to LED lighting with the goal of
reducing energy consumption by 36%. The ground-breaking project will
enhance the Town's reputation as a pioneer in environmental protection.
Draw for commercial use development allotment

The
Town of Banff's 2007 Commercial Growth Management Allocation Random
Selection Draw is scheduled for April 13, 2007. Since the last draw in
Nov. 2004, a total of 961.4m2 (10,348 ft2) of commercial floor area has
returned to the Town of Banff and will be reallocated in the 2007 draw.
Demand exceeds supply, so a random selection draw will be held.
Banff Avenue about to be refreshed

This week you will see the start of Banff refreshing,
the Town of Banff's $22.8 million project to refresh the 100 and 200
blocks of Banff Avenue. Contractor, Standard General, will replace
century-old infrastructure and reconstruct the streetscape to better
profile Banff's natural surroundings, making the downtown more
pedestrian friendly and enjoyable for residents and visitors. The first
stage of construction (running from March 19 to the end of April) will
bring the first vehicular detour – Banff Avenue will go from four-lane
to two-lane, two-way traffic.
Banff to celebrate best Canada Day yet

Thanks to the festivities surrounding Banff refreshing,
Canada Day and the July 1 long weekend in Banff will have even more
events and fun for both visitors and residents in 2007. Banff will host
a pancake breakfast, an opening ceremony and birthday cake in Central
Park, live outdoor performances, the popular Canada Day Parade and the
fireworks extravaganza. In addition, there will be roving street
entertainment and lots of interactive fun.

By this time next year, Banff's downtown will be completely refreshed. The new downtown Banff will be more pedestrian friendly and enjoyable for residents and visitors. Work will proceed in 3 stages, running from March through October of 2007, plus final landscaping and asphalt work in spring 2008. The Town is investing $1 million to enhance the downtown experience for both residents and visitors while Banff refreshing is in progress.

The Town's current underground infrastructure is nearly 100 years old and is nearing the end of its useful life. Banff Refreshing is a major project that will carry out downtown infrastructure improvements to better accommodate seasonal tourism demands, to enhance the visitor experience, and to improve livability for residents.
