FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Banff a lot merrier this season
LED Christmas pageantry really lights up the Town
Banff, AB – This week, the Town of Banff is installing $75,000 worth of new holiday pageantry. Christmas trees will adorn Banff Avenue light tops, giant snowflakes will light the way up Tunnel Mountain Drive and twirling snowflakes will be projected onto the side of the Bear Street Mall."Visitors come to Banff expecting a winter wonderland, especially during the holiday season," says Leslie Sellers, Visitor Experience Coordinator for the Town of Banff.
"Enhancing our holiday pageantry really adds to the experience - for our residents and guests."
The tops of the streetlights in the refreshed downtown were designed to reflect the look of a tree-top. "It was a natural choice to have the holiday pageantry compliment this theme. We wanted the lights to reflect our sense of place in the National Park," said Sellers.
The 30 new Christmas tree decorations and seven, five-foot snowflakes were installed this week. Bear Street lighting will be in place the first week in December.
The Town of Banff is happy to endorse Light-emitting diode (LED) pageantry.
"Using LED technology, it's really a win-win situation. The town looks festive and we are doing our part to save on electricity," says Town of Banff Mayor, John Stutz.
LED lights use as little as one per cent of the energy burned by incandescent lights for decorating trees and houses, so even if your incandescent strings are new, it makes economic and environmental sense to replace them, according to Chad Townsend, the Town's environmental coordinator. Considering LED lights often last 66 times longer than incandescent, it's a smart investment.
