FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Banff announces completion of Banff Refreshing,
invests in free concert for all Canadians
Banff,
AB – Today, the Town of Banff unveiled it’s newly refreshed Banff Avenue, and to celebrate, announced it will host Banff Live – the biggest street party ever held in this mountain community – on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008."We want to celebrate the refreshing of Canada’s Town with a line-up of the best Canadian acts. We’re bringing in four bands from coast to coast and will host a free party for anyone who wants to come out and celebrate with us," says Mayor of Banff, John Stutz.
Ron Sexsmith, Joel Plaskett Emergency, K-OS and Theory of a Deadman will each play full-length concerts beginning at 1 p.m. and ending at 9 p.m. The Town expects 30,000 attendees will enjoy the show on Banff Avenue.
"I invite all Canadian’s to come and check out the Town’s $22.8 million investment in Banff Avenue," says Stutz, who adds that visitors will benefit from a more pedestrian-friendly downtown core.
Banff Refreshing involved the replacement of 100-year old infrastructure and major enhancements at street level including: sidewalks that are twice as wide, twice as many crosswalks, trees and landscaping that wonderfully reflects the natural park surroundings, new lighting to enhance night sky viewing, solar paneled garbage bins that reduce garbage pick up, three times as many places to sit and enjoy the views and many more bike racks. Not to mention the subtle crosswalk details and new bronze street corner art.
The Town of Banff thanks Alberta Municipal Affairs for the special infrastructure grant that made this critical infrastructure work possible and Banff Lake Louise Tourism, who is a key partner in presenting Banff Live.
The Town of Banff is located in the heart of Banff National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We are home to over 8,700 residents and greet close to four million visitors each year.
