FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
EPCOR now operating Town of Banff wastewater treatment plant
Banff, AB – Today, the Town of Banff is pleased to announce EPCOR is the new operator for the Town of Banff's wastewater treatment plant. "We are happy to be working with EPCOR," according to town manager, Robert Earl, "as they have the proven ability to continue to maintain our high standards of wastewater treatment operations."In July, 2008 the company contracted to run the Town of Banff's wastewater treatment plant (Earth Tech) was purchased by AECOM who then sold the division that operated the plant to United Water. United Water, based out of the United States, ran the plant remotely with a combination of local staff and bringing in operators on a rotating basis. The Town of Banff and United Water recognized this was not an optimal arrangement. The Town of Banff then began to seek out an alternative operator to ensure the facility continued to do better than provincial standards around wastewater treatment.
EPCOR has utility management agreements with many Alberta municipalities, including the Town of Canmore. With head offices in Edmonton, Alberta, and their expertise in water and wastewater operations for the Alberta market, the Town of Banff anticipates optimal service to continue. Joe Gysel, vice president of water development says "EPCOR is excited to have the opportunity to work with the Town of Banff and looks forward to our new partnership with the community and its residents."
EPCOR currently operates many wastewater plants in Southern Alberta and came highly recommended. It is because of EPCOR's proximity and ability to immediately assume operations, and their capacity to deliver a high standard of service and proactive maintenance to protect the Town of Banff's infrastructure investment and maximize facility life cycle, that they are now the Town of Banff's wastewater treatment plant operator.
EPCOR has been named one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for nine consecutive years, and one of only ten companies to be selected as Canada's Most Earth-Friendly Employers. EPCOR Utilities Inc.'s wholly-owned subsidiaries build, own and operate power plants, electrical transmission and distribution networks, water and wastewater treatment facilities and infrastructure in Canada and the United States.
