Racer ready? Banff partners with Canmore to host 2014 Alberta Winter Games

Two destinations with plenty of experience in hosting big events have been selected to produce the 2014 Alberta Winter Games, it was announced this morning. The Town of Banff, the site of the inaugural Alberta Winter Games in 1976, and the Town of Canmore, a venue city of the 1988 Calgary Olympic Winter Games, will be playing host to more than 2,600 young Albertan athletes and coaches, as well as their parents, in February, 2014.

Portion of Legacy Trail temporary closure planned

Parks Canada is closing a portion of the Legacy Trail, from the third Vermilion Lake to Bow Valley Trail August 15, weather permitting, for herbicide spraying of noxious non-native plants.

Premier announces GreenTrip funding - $900,000 for Bow Valley Regional Transit Services

Premier Ed Stelmach announced today that the Town of Banff and the Town of Canmore will each receive a $450,000 grant from the Province of Alberta’s Green Transit Incentives Program to help fund a new transit service between the two Bow Valley communities.
Premier Stelmach made a special trip to Banff to make the announcement this morning and help celebrate the launch of the Bow Valley Regional Transit Services Commission, the first regional transit commission in the province.

New website feature connects lost pets with owners

Lassie would have come home a lot sooner if little Timmy had been able to register her with the Town of Banff’s new website service for lost pets. The Pet Connect application, being launched this week, is a map-based service that allows lost and found pets to be returned to their owners quickly and easily.

Town urges residents to help clear catch basins

The Town of Banff is asking residents and property owners to help clear any catch basins near their homes and businesses of snow, ice slush and any other blockages, during this warmer weather. Clearing the drains will prevent puddling on streets, walkways and their yards, and facilitate spring melt of this year’s high snowpack.
