Council Priorities 2011
For Immediate Release Print/ download PDF ( PDF - 64 kb)
Banff, AB – Garbage and recycling, transportation and land use are among the top priorities for 2011 for Banff Town Council.
Council set priorities during a strategic workshop in November and formally approved their top priorities at their regular meeting of January 24, 2011. Priorities are selected based on the strategic objectives outlined in the Banff Community Plan, as well as resident feedback, fiscal capacity, and assessed needs, and guide the development of new policies and enhancements of existing programs to help achieve the community’s vision.
“Council had a long list of projects and initiatives out of the Community Plan we’d love to see go forward ,” said Mayor Karen Sorensen , “but each one requires significant human and capital resources to achieve, or represents an ongoing operational cost. By identifying and ranking our priorities, we’re able to set realistic, achievable targets for the upcoming year that will help us realize our community vision.”
The top five priorities are waste reduction, diversion and management, a sustainable transportation system and traffic management plan, completion of phase two of the Land Use Bylaw review, a review of municipal service delivery, and diversifying revenue streams. Some priorities are ongoing, with progress already achieved, including the implementation of a new waste utility for residential and commercial properties, and phase one completion of a new wayfinding program – a component to a comprehensive transportation strategy.
The priorities, and how they will help achieve the Community Plan, can be found on banff.ca (Town Hall>council>strategic priorities).
