Spend Canada Day in Banff, Canada’s Top Destination
June 28, 2011For Immediate Release
Banff, AB - Where better to spend Canada Day than in Canada’s number one destination: Banff. And 2011 offers one of the Town of Banff’s biggest Canada Day celebrations ever.
For those lucky enough to be in Banff Friday (July 1), the forecast is for sun with some cloudy periods and warm temperatures, so be sure to pack sunscreen and a hat, plenty of water, and insect repellent and get ready to enjoy a full day.
The celebration of all things maple begins with the Parks Canada pancake breakfast at the administration building from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies once again hosts Sidewalk Art from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The entertainment at Central Park begins at noon and runs right through the afternoon and evening. Highlights include Hunt Family First Nations Dancing, Stampede City Chorus, Calgary Fiddlers and Under Pressure Rock and Roll Reunion. Banff’s own Boneyard takes the stage at 9 p.m. The full line up is on banff.ca.
Banff loves a parade, and the annual Canada Day parade, starting at 5 p.m., is the biggest one yet. The parade runs along Banff Avenue from Cougar to Buffalo Street. Parade marshalling is on Cougar Street. Road closures are in effect, and motorists heading for the south side of Banff from Highway 1 will be directed to the Banff Avenue exit to Tunnel Mountain Drive. Avoid delays, congestion and parking woes by taking Roam public transit to your destination.
To end the celebrations with a bang, Canada Day fireworks are planned for 11 p.m. The prime viewing spots are from Bow River or Central Park.
Banff was rated as the number one Canadian destination by Trip Advisor in May. Banff’s Canada Day celebrations are organized and produced by the Town of Banff.
