Help Clear Catch Basins
MARCH 18, 2011FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE print/ download pdf ( PDF - 65 kb)
Banff, AB – The Town of Banff is asking residents and property owners to help clear any catch basins near their homes and businesses of snow, ice slush and any other blockages, during this warmer weather. Clearing the drains will prevent puddling on streets, walkways and their yards, and facilitate spring melt of this year’s high snowpack.
While Alberta Environment has not issued a specific snowmelt advisory for the Bow Valley, it is cautioning against rising levels in creeks and small streams and deteriorating ice covers.
The Town’s street crew continues to focus on snow removal to clear areas where drainage is being impeded.
Storm water drains are fed directly into the Bow River. To minimize pollution, please refrain from using chemical de-icers and avoid washing other pollutants such as anti freeze and oil into the catch basins.
For more information, check the town’s website at www.banff.ca/locals-residents/environment/storm-water.htm.
