Banff Receives $6 Million Funding
Janis Tarchuk, Myron Thompson and Karen Sorensen
announce CAMRIF funding for a new recreation centre
On Monday, January 21, 2008, the federal and provincial governments announced their $6 million contribution toward the construction of a new recreation centre for Banff.
The funding is the result of the Town's grant application to the Canada-Alberta Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (CAMRIF).
Myron Thompson, Member of Parliament for Wild Rose, on behalf of the Honourable Rona Ambrose, President of the queen's Privy council for Canada, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of Western Economic Diversification, along with Janis Tarchuk, Minister of Alberta Children's Services and MLA for Banff-Cochrane, announced the funding at Banff Town Hall Council Chambers.
"We are delighted with the announcement," says Karen Sorensen, Councillor for the Town of Banff. "$6 million will give us the funding boost we need to get started on this project."
