Community and Economic Prosperity and Sustainability
Council is working to make Banff economically sustainable.
Council continues to work towards enhancing our community and economic prosperity and sustainability. Goals for 2010 include:
Plan and implement our municipal response to Indexperience input. Examples include public washrooms, wayfinding, parking welcome experience and street animation.
Consult with the community to determine the role of our municipal government in economic sustainability and prosperity, and to build a long-term plan for this work.
Recognizing global factors such as climate change regulation, energy price and availability fluctuations, and economic changes, begin a conversation with Banffites about how to increase our resilience as a community. This could include discussion of how we could proactively prepare for possible changes in tourism, how we could reduce our dependency on the energy grid, and other long-term projects and programs.
Indexperience Survey
The Town of Banff, in partnership with Banff Lake Louise Tourism, conducted a visitor survey in 2009. Council is now considering options for improving visitor experience using the information collected.
Now
Compiled results of the summer survey were presented to Council at the
April 27, 2009 meeting
(see item 8.4). The draft results of the winter survey have been reviewed by Council, and the final results will be available soon.
Next
Council will see an update by the end of April on the Town's plan for moving action items forward.
Banff Summit
The third annual "Mayor's Summit" will bring residents and stakeholders together to build a plan for sustaining Banff’s economic prosperity. Discussions will include a review of the Indexperience Survey and the Banff Commercial Capacity Study.

Now
The first of a series of Summit meetings was held on November 26, 2009. Stakeholders from the business community gave Council input on a variety of subjects pertaining to economic sustainability and prosperity.
Next
Input from the November 26 meeting having to do with
Commercial Allocation
will be added to the
Land Use Bylaw Phase 2
research. Council will be looking at this input in February 2010.
Input on subjects other than Commercial Allocation has been distributed to Council.
