A Sustainable Transportation System

In 2011, the Town piloted several traffic management initiatives to reduce congestion short-term.

In 2012, the Town will focus on updating the transportation master plan.  The master plan will address the community’s long-term needs in these areas:

• Cycling infrastructure
• Regional transit
• Traffic flow
• Parking management

User pay parking will be explored as a potential measure to ease congestion and reduce emissions.

• To provide a transportation system that is economically and environmentally sustainable.
• To be an environmental role model.
• To offer universal access to affordable services that meet the needs of residents and visitors.
• To provide the infrastructure to support the tourism industry.

Progress Update

Transportation Management Plan

During 2012 budget discussions, Council allocated $90,000 for completion of a Transportation Master Plan. The plan will be a results-oriented planning document that describes the Town's goals and recommends transportation solutions to specific areas of concern throughout the town. The plan is expected to be complete in November 2012.
