Non-Traditional Benefits
In addition to our traditional benefits, the Town of Banff offers benefits and perks that you are not likely to find in other organizations.
Active Transportation Program
Active Transportation is one of our most recent initiatives, and it has been a huge success for the Town of Banff.
Employees are encouraged to use their own muscle power to get to work; be it bicycling, walking, running, rollerblading, skateboarding or any self-propelled means. As a result, participating employees may receive one free minor bicycle tune-up a year, take part in a bicycle purchase plan, be eligible for weekly active transportation prizes and have available for use, bicycle repair tools and secure bicycle storage.
benefits of Active Transportation
Every year for Environment week, which is during the first week of June, we encourage employees to actively commute (or car-pool and take transit). We hope the week is inpsiring for our employees so much that for the rest of the warm weather season they actively commute regularly.
See photos of many who participated in our first year launch (2007). Check out our
Capture-a-Commuter
slide show.
In fact, the Town of Banff is so bicycle-crazy, that we continue to enter corporate teams in the
24 Hours of Adrenalin
mountain bike event in Canmore. Watch for our team(s) called "I'd Rather be Riding a Townie."
We've expanded the Active Transportation Program to become the
Active Living Program
which further supports the active lifestyles of our employees, such as fitness memberships and sporting gear.
Who's behind the scenes making these programs happen?
A volunteer committee made up of Town of Banff employees from several departments, including our Human Resources Manager and Town Manager are working together to make these programs available to our employees.
The group of volunteers, called the Liaison Committee, strives to continually improve the workplace for our fellow employees, making this the best place to work.
