Property Assessment
Property Assessment Notices
The Town’s assessor completes assessments of residential and commercial properties every year. Once the annual assessment has been completed, we mail you a notice letting you know the assessment value of your property. Assessment Notices are not tax bills. They are sent to advise you of the assessor's estimate of the value of your property.Taxes are calculated by multiplying the assessed value of a property by the tax rate. The municipal tax rate is set by Council, usually in April of each year. Your tax bill will be mailed to you after Council sets the municipal tax rate.
2011 Highlights
Based on data from July 2010:- Overall assessments decreased by 5% (from $1.9 billion
in 2010 to $1.8 billion in 2011).
- Residential property assessments increased from between 4% - 5%.
- Commercial assessments decreased by 20%.
Assessment values will be used to calculate 2011 property tax.
