The Rocky Mountains offer distinctive geographic features as well as unique and diverse wildlife and plant life. Here are some suggestions for learning more about Banff's natural environment:- Pick up the free Walking Through Banff's Nature booklet/map, and follow the self-guided walking tour to discover fascinating facts about our natural history
- Take an interpretive walk. Nearby trails include the pathway along the Bow River, Fenland Trail, and the Cave & Basin National Historic Site
-
Ride up a gondola: the Banff Gondola offers one of the best Rocky Mountain panoramic views around, and the Lake Louise Gondola features alpine ecosystems and grizzly habitat
- Go birdwatching, visit glaciers and waterfalls: these and other related activities are listed in our Wildlife & Nature section
-
Hike in the summer, or go horseback riding
- Try canoeing or taking a float tour
