Refreshing
The new look of Banff Avenue "Refreshed" offers
plenty of open space, resting spots, trees,
flowers, bike racks and open space.
In 2007 and early 2008, Banff "refreshed" the two main blocks in downtown Banff, the core shopping area along Banff Avenue.
Banff Live Celebrates
Banff Refreshed, Aug. 21, 2008
This work re-shaped the streetscape to reflect Banff's natural surroundings, making the downtown more enjoyable for residents and visitors. At the same time, we also replaced century-old underground infrastructure.
The new Banff Avenue streetscape offers:
wider sidewalks that enhance your sense of personal space
more rest spots that give you a place to recharge and take in the views
plenty of trees and landscaped areas that offer you shade and reflect our natural park surroundings
new lighting that allows us all to enjoy a better view of the night sky
designated roadside loading zones that make drop-offs and pick-ups more convenient
additional crosswalks that make crossing the street easier and safer
solar paneled garbage bins that reduce garbage pick up
During
Banff refreshing
, the Town of Banff invested more than $1 million to enhance your downtown experience. All of Banff Avenue remained open to pedestrians throughout the project.
The project featured
refreshing Welcome Stands
staffed by our Refreshing Ambassadors,
charming squirrel guides
to help you find your way,
roving street performers
, lots of extra parking in the downtown area,
collectible squirrel buttons
at local shops, unique photo opportunities, and a great contest to win a trip back to visit us again.
